Why train with us?

Martial artist training
Martial arts class

Our clubs offer a safe space to learn and train with others in a disciplined environment. Classes will begin with a warm up which includes stretching to increase flexibility and avoid injury. We engage in solo and paired drills and often train using pads. You will learn striking and grappling techniques and some weapons work including Bo staff. Traditional techniques are taken from southern shaolin kung fu and tai chi. Through training you will develop your functional strength and fitness.

The instructors and many of our students have successfully competed in Chinese kickboxing or Sanda competitions at full and semi-contact. Therefore we are able to teach this discipline to a good standard. At our clubs we practice light sparring as it is important for students to know if they can move and hit people who are also moving and fighting back! Sparring also helps to develop mental fortitude as does strength and fitness work.

Attending classes can help to develop the skills and physical capabilities needed for self defence. However enduring a violent confrontation or winning medals does have to be the only reason for training martial arts. Training can give a great sense of well-being as you challenge yourself physically and mentally while sharing this experience with like-minded people. Training can be fun!
